Questions

Is Yorkstone worth it?

For a period stone house or a formal garden, it's hard to beat. Indian sandstone in similar tones is a more affordable alternative.

Will porcelain cope with Harrogate's frosts?

Yes. It absorbs almost no water, so frost can't damage it, provided it's primed and fully bedded.

Our garden slopes. Can we still have a patio?

Yes. Terraces and steps are often the best answer. See garden terraces and steps.

Do I need planning permission?

Not usually for a ground-level patio. Raised platforms over 300 millimetres need permission, and listed buildings may need consent.

How do you stop a patio causing damp?

We keep it at least 150 millimetres below the damp-proof course and never cover airbricks.

Can you lay a circle in setts?

Yes. Setts are ideal for circles, curves and borders. See block paved patios.

How long will it take?

It depends on size, levels and steps. Terraces with walls take longer than a single flat patio.

Do you cover Knaresborough?

Yes, along with the villages around Harrogate. See where we cover.
